Description

Fragrant princess dwarf tea olive osmanthus 'kaori hime' this has to be one of the most incredible new introductions of this species in recent memory. ( nurseries caroliniana ) "we found this cultivar in Japan in November, 2009 & the parent plant was in full flower". the leaves are typical of this species, but are only 3/8" long. But the most remarkable thing about it is that it will flower when only a few" tall. Many plants this dwarf rarely flower, if ever, but the flowers are full size, so they put on quite a show & are just as fragrant as the species. We don't know the ultimate size of this cultivar, but it is thought to only get 1 to 2' in height. Ideal for a rock garden or very confined spaces or even as a container plant. This is the first tea olive that I would ever recommend for bonsai. Bloom time: fall mature height: 1-2' mature width: 1-2' exposure: full sun to partial shade hardiness zones: 6-10

Product arrived on time and looked healthy. But, I ordered it because of the reviews. I realized the product images was different from the reviews. I really want a Fodingzhu, so gave a try. Disappointed.I ordered three dwarf tea olive plants and I must say the plants arrived very fast, well packaged, and in excellent condition. I'm just not 100% they are tea olives. The leaves are unlike any tea olives I have ever seen, they look more like holly leaves. Looking back, that is what the picture on the product description looks like, too, so I got what I ordered...just not sure it's what I expected.I'll report back as they grow.Lovely item, shipped fast, well packaged. It's a good little tree that has settled into its container well, growing fast and bloomed right away. Scent is HEAVENLY but I am quite allergic! Nonetheless it smells so nice that I am almost tempted to overlook the fact it hurts my throat. NOT the seller's fault at all, I'd order from them again but If you have allergies perhaps think twice about this item for indoor container use. Outdoor it would likely be fine. I'll have to find a spot for it outdoors!I fell in love with this plant when I lived in Japan and always wanted to own one of my own, but they are difficult to come by in my part of Florida. I took a gamble and ordered a live tree off of Amazon of all places. When it first arrived, it looked kind of sickly — as if it had been traumatized but once I transferred it to a new, bigger pot with fresh soil it sprouted up almost immediately. It’s growing tremendously well and sprouting buds too, which is surprising for such a young tree. Must be grafted.Anyway, three stars for the end result, minus one for how it arrived and minus one for the price for the size of the plant.I bought the quart size. The plant must be lack of water for days before it arrived. When I opened the box and wrapping, some leaves were folded in halves like you fold a piece of paper. Some other leaves were near yellow color. I got a replacement, the second one also have yellow leaves on top. It’s better to buy a bigger size more established than a quart size I have. I have repotted and so far only tiny buds of leaves are growing. I am crossing fingers if it will survive. Wonder why others got plants with flowers and mine is just not the case. All the plants came in the 4.5 inch quart pot as advertised. They are green, were well packaged, and appear to be healthy. All the plants were about 4 inches tall. In the ground they go, so we will see.Update 4/27/18..Paid about $20 each. 3 of the 5 dried up immediately upon planting even though they were watered as needed. The other 2 are looking good so far. In the end with 3 of them dying immediately upon delivery, I ended up with 2 - 4" plants effectively spending $50/each on the healthy ones.Very happy with purchase. Packaging and shipping great and plant very healthy. Ordering another as a house warming gift.I bought two of Tea Olive (Osmanthus Fragrans), one is white flowers and the other one is red flowers last summer. The white one grows very well and is blooming. Unfortunately, the red one was smaller than the white one and died in two month after arrived
